microbes in our everyday life

Microbes are an essential part of all life on earth. Microbes were used for centuries to provide us with food through fermentation. We can't imagine life without a bread. Bread is a result of microbial fermentation of sugars to produce carbon dioxide, that make our bread rise. Yogurt and cheese are produced by fermentation of lactose, the sugar in milk. We make our beer and wine with help of microbes. Microbes converting sugars into alcohol for our consumption. Microbes such as phytoplankton also serve as a nutrient source that indirectly feeds all marine animals.
